A finely modelled French silver-plated brass Art Nouveau medallion brooch dating to around 1900. The brooch depicts Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, shown in classical profile and adorned with blossoming flowers, executed in fine repoussé work, the design raised from the reverse to create a softly sculptural relief. Ancient Greek and Roman deities served as an important source of inspiration for artists of the Art-Nouveau movement, whose fascination with nature and allegorical symbolism made Flora a particularly fitting subject. The finely executed repoussé work creates a softly sculptural relief reflecting the Art-Nouveau movement’s fascination with classical mythology and allegorical natural subjects.
The brooch measures 2,5 cm in diameter. And makes use of a C-Catch to fasten the pin on the back.
This brooch is in near perfect Antique condition, no major visible dents or scratches. Some very minor wear on the silver plating which is barely noticeable when worn. The pin is very sturdy and in full working order. Fully cleaned and ready to wear!
