An elegant German guard chain made by Kollmar & Jourdan in Pforzheim. Finished in gold-plated brass and composed of finely interlocking round cable links and fitted with a distinctive Jugendstil slider. Its angular openwork body, decorated with greek key motifs is centred with a small bezel-set opal, whose iridescent flashes provide a luminous focal point. Beneath the stone sits a triangular appliqué placed on a vertical stem. When viewed from a distance, the combined arrangement of stem, triangle and luminous opal assumes the appearance of a highly stylised flower, without relying upon literal foliate ornament. This subtle transformation of precise geometric forms into a naturalistic impression exemplifies the imaginative Jugendstil designs produced by firms such as Kollmar & Jourdan in Pforzheim at the beginning of the 20th century.
This type of chain was designed as a ladies watch chain to be worn around the neck, with a central slider to create different ways to style it. It was mainly used to suspend a small ladies watch from the bottom clasp.
This chain measures 79,5 cm in total length, and features a swivel clasp for your watch.
In perfect antique condition! No major visible dents or scratches. Swivel clasp functions perfectly. All stones present and intact. Fully cleaned, and ready to wear!
