c.1910 German Nickel-Plated Jugendstil Watch Chain set with Green-Glass and Louis XVI Revival Pendant made by Louis Gottlieb & Söhne

€80.00

A richly constructed German watch chain in nickel-plated brass, composed of bevelled rings alternating with flattened connecting links embellished with delicate die-struck motifs. At its centre is an elaborate arrangement of three compound fancy links assembled from multiple openwork elements, their layered and highly stylised construction distinctly Jugendstil in character; the two elongated outer links originally held matching green-glass inserts, of which one remains. Suspended from a short drop chain is the original square fob, its vivid green-glass panel overlaid with a finely worked openwork lattice of linear borders and small floral rosettes in the Louis XVI Revival style. Likely produced by Louis Gottlieb & Söhne of Idar-Oberstein, the piece reflects the firm’s intricate and technically accomplished chainwork. The combination of expressive Jugendstil links with the pendant’s courtly ornament captures the eclectic refinement of German jewellery at the close of the Belle Époque.

The chain measures 26,3 cm in total. The chain features a spring ring to attach to your vest, and a swivel clasp, for your watch.

In Very good vintage condition! No major visible dents or scratches. Some wear on the Chrome-plating revealing the brass underneath which isn't very noticeable. One glass insert is missing. Swivel clasps and spring ring functions perfectly. Fully cleaned, and ready to wear!
