1890s German Nickel-Plated Watch Chain set with decorated white glass inserts and Amber-Glass Spinner Pendant

€85.00

A richly ornamented German watch chain, likely produced in Idar-Oberstein during the 1890s, assembled from tapering nickel-plated rings alternating with slender slitted openwork links. Two substantial compound fancy links provide decorative focal points, their architectural frames enriched with fine die-struck motifs and set with faceted opaque-white glass inserts carved with colourful foliate decoration. Suspended from a short drop chain, the original spinner fob holds a large faceted piece of amber-coloured glass within a pierced frame of symmetrical scrolling ornament, allowing the glass to rotate freely and catch the light. The interplay of cool nickel plating, delicately coloured enamel and luminous amber glass exemplifies the technically accomplished and visually inventive jewellery produced by Idar-Oberstein’s late-19th-century workshops.

The chain measures about 28 cm long, and features a spring ring to attach to your vest, and a swivel clasp to attach to your pocket watch. The pendant measures 2,5 x 2,5 cm

It's in very good antique condition! No major visible dents or scratches. Some wear on the plating which is not noticeable when worn. The motifs on the enamel inserts is worn on the same side of each piece. Otherwise fully cleaned, and ready to wear!
